Piñata Protest

Piñata Protest is a rock n' roll quartet from San Antonio, TX. Since their formation, this widely recognized band has distinguished themselves by fusing Tex-Mex, the traditional Texas/Mexico border music, with punk rock, most notably with the use of the button accordion.

'Necio Nights' (Rock de Kasba, 2018), is their third album which continues in combing the lively sounds and traditional rhythms of the Mexican button accordion with the upbeat tempos and attitude of punk rock to produce a unique and wildly eclectic mix of aggressive yet melodic songs that are sung in both Spanish and English.

Piñata Protest was founded by the singer, accordionist, and trumpet player of Mexican born Álvaro Del Norte and is accompanied by Richie Brown on electric bass and vocals, Chris-Ruptive on drums and vocals, and Regino López on guitar and vocals.

During the past ten years Piñata Protest has maintained a busy schedule of performing and touring throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico with a wide range of musical acts such as ‪The Reverend Horton Heat‬, Molotov, Flogging Molly, The Offspring, ‪Guttermouth‬, Voodoo Glow Skills, Brujeria, The Toadies, Ramon Ayala, Authority Zero, Agent Orange, ‪Ozomatli‬, and Mustard Plug.

This third release features eleven original tracks that extend their musical adventure, exploring cumbia, huapango and norteño rhythms. The quality and musicality of the album captures a maturing band now fully rooted with its musical identity yet still not done continuing to explore their boundaries nor slowing down in their energy.

The album also features at distorted guitar-charged cover of ''Tragos Amargos'' by ‪Ramon Ayala‬, a nice follow-up to their cover of 'Volver, Volver' on their sophmore album 'El Valiente' which brought a buzz to the band, landing that track into several soundtracks including 'Me Estas Matando Susana' starring the Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal.

"Necio Nights" features several notable musical guests such as Juan Brujo of Brujeria, Mark Bush of Voodoo Glow Skulls, Ruben Durazo of Tim Time Bomb and Boogaloo Assassins, and Fredo Ortiz de Gogol Bordello and The Beastie Boys. This record was recorded at Pot O'Gold Studios in California by Dave Irish in a span of just three days, taking the devil by the horns.

"Necio nights" is the perfect soundtrack to celebrate life and celebrate friendship, dancing until the end of the night and drinking tequila until dawn.
