Sagarroi - Baleike iTunes Store - Zona K
To play the ups and downs of melancholia and euphoria is something that I have only heard Iñigo Muguruza, perfect with the help of Asier Ituarte, a trombonist without rival, and old partner in the age of Joxe Ripiau. The results are spectacular. Their impressive compositions and melodies are supported by a consolidated base rhythm produced by Carlos Zubikoa and Gorka Baskaran who have developed a simple and effective contribution to the band with a contagious beat that is recognizable as nothing other than Sagarroi. |
La Kinky Beat - One More Time iTunes - Zona K
On One more time, we find in the new musical blend a perfect beat thanks to the tremendous base and percussion line on top of which are played rocksteady, reggae, rock´n´roll, ska, hip hop, dub, funk, and the band’s characteristic, electronic jungle and drum´n´bass rhythms. This last characteristic is enriched by the Italian DJ and MC, Rude, the newest addition to the Kinky Beat family, who the band relies on to reinforce and define the electronic pulse, both in the studio and live in concert. Also notable is the work of Tomás Arroyos (Mano Negra, Color Humano, Dusminguet), producer, along with La Kinky Beat, of One more time, who has managed to give personality and cohesion to a group of diverse songs, like the reggae cuts, “Vaffanculo” and “Chronic Steady”, the punk-rock song, “Big drummer”, the pop “Eternity”, the hip hop cut with a sense of humor, “Monster”, themes including sampling, like “Dejar de pensar” (Stop thinking) or pure Kinky Beat themes, like “Black Panther” and “Rebel smile”. |
Zulu 9.30 - Conecta o Revienta iTunes Store - Zona K
The album includes eleven songs that run from Reggae, Son and Rumba to Hip-Hop and Samba, all naturally fused with an exquisite freshness. The project involved doubling the efforts of the band (Oski-jah Man, Blion Zion, Kodi and Charlie Cuevas—voice, guitars and bass for ZULU 9.30), that in addition to composing and performing the songs also produced the album. The CD was recorded in Kasba Studio by Stephane Carteaux, producer of Cheb Balowski and Trimelón, among other bands. Some of the outstanding collaborators on the CD include: Dani Macaco and Paul de Swardt, Josue “the cyclone” García (trumpet player with Muchachito Bombo Infierno), Jaguar Andrade (guitarist with Carlinhos Brown), Borja Peiron (violinist with Keympa), Madriguera and many other friends who wanted to contribute their bit, so that this project could become a reality. |

Fufü-Ai - Petite Fleur iTunes Store - Zona K
“Petitie fleure” includes nine fresh pop cuts, approaching Latin music as well as French chanson, sung in French, Spanish and English. These nine small pearls, like the ones that are strung around the muse’s neck on the CD cover, introduce a band that stands out on the music scene for keeping its distance from the commercial standards that presently are being exported from Barcelona. The character of the project is perfectly reflected in the simple but effective design of the CD that revolves around the illustrative work of Anouk. |
La Kinky Beat - RMX iTunes Store - Zona K
This second album is surprising for its immediacy and change of register without losing its kinky identity, as well as for new versions of themes created with several collaborating artists: Fermin Muguraza and Sorkun with the warm “I Come From”; DJ Panko, from Ojos de Brujo, with “Lo Llevas Claro!” marked by its definite drum´n´bass accent; the Italian DJ, Rudeman, with the sensational “Pirata Capitán”; Marc Llobera, from Cheb Balowski, with the colorful “Maria”; Roberto Sánchez, from Basque Dub Foundation, with “No Sun” and also Electroputas, Beautyfulañica, Hohmann… |
Black Baudelaire - Cuidado iTunes - Zona K
In the spring of 2005, they released “Ciudado,” (Watch Out): a CD compiled of fifteen themes, a potent hip-hop “mestizo” sung in Wolof, French, English, Spanish…, fifteen songs with richly elaborated lyrics that combine street poetry and African storytelling; themes that reflect the myriad social predicaments caused by globalization and that describe the harsh reality of an African betrayed by the European Dream. |
Cheb Balowski - Plou Plom (Musiqueta que enamora) iTunes Store - Zona K
The first half of the new CD, “Plou plom,” (Lead Rain), reflects the times in which we live, while the second half ”musiqueta que enamora,” (a little love music) acts as a counterweight to the bad vibes we face each day. It is, without a doubt, 100% Balowski. We hear both a fluid continuity with past work and new advances, demonstrated in 13 themes charged with a beat that comfortably mixes traditional rhythms and melodies with Mediterranean flavored rock. |
La Kinky Beat - Made in Barna iTunes - Zona K
The CD which includes 15 tracks that vary between rock steady, reggae, punk and the more savage side of “mestiza” music, is distinguished by its exquisite design, thanks to Ferzeta (who in the past collaborated with Trimelón). The CD is produced by Stephane Carteaux (pruducer of Cheb Balowski and Trimelón, among others), together with David Bourguignon (musician with Radio Bemba, who also performed periodically with La Kinky) and the band. Present among the collaborators are friends who recorded on the demo, like David (guitar), Arecio Smith (keyboards, who now performs live with the group), Petete (trombone), and friends who have accompanied the group on tour, like Yacine (Cheb Balowski), Gambeat (Radio Bemba) and Muchachito (Trimelón). |
