  • Catalan media are calling the Basque artist’s concert in Barcelona a showstopper.
  • Muguruza is gearing up for his next major challenge: February 15th at the Wizink Center in Madrid, where 12,000 tickets have already been sold a month ahead.

Fermin Muguruza called his concert last Friday at Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona an ‘anti-fascist aquelarre’ that will stay with people for years. This performance marks a milestone in the Basque artist’s career, as it was his biggest ever in Barcelona, with nearly 15,000 tickets sold.
‘Apotheosis,’ ‘a dizzying spectacle,’ ‘a packed Sant Jordi,’ ‘Muguruza is God,’ and ‘he shook the Olympic venue’ are some of the phrases used by various Catalan media outlets to describe the concert.

  • Ara: ‘Apotheotic anti-fascist “aquelarre” by Fermin Muguruza. The Basque musician looks back on 40 years of his career in front of 15,000 people at Palau Sant Jordi.’
  • La Vanguardia: “The Basque singer put on a dizzying show at the Auditori, in front of an audience that sang along to his songs and immersed themselves in a thrilling gathering with political and social slogans.”
  • El Món: “At Sant Jordi, no one surrenders… And God is Muguruza. The Basque singer reflects on forty years of artistic and political activism in front of a packed Sant Jordi.”
  • El Periódico: “Fermin Muguruza, an ‘anti-fascist “aquelarre”’ and so much more at Palau Sant Jordi. The Basque singer electrified the Olympic venue with a high-energy set that took the crowd through his 40-year career, including fiery renditions of classics from Kortatu and Negu Gorriak.”
  • El País: “…he transformed Sant Jordi into a frenzy of energy, with every person caught up in the excitement. Restless because of someone who seems to have been born a militant, musician, activist, and a person to whom time doesn’t seem to take its toll—someone immune to doubt, resistant and resilient, passionate and inspiring, an ideological block that seems more solid than the largest cube by Chillida.”
  • El Punt Avui: “…despite everything happening in the world these days, nothing is lost as long as there are people fighting, and during the nearly three hours of the concert, that was undeniable. In the end, Sarri Sarri, top moment. And the feeling of having witnessed a great triumph.”

TV3, the Catalan television network, also produced an extensive report on the concert, titled: ‘Fermin Muguruza packs Palau Sant Jordi to celebrate his 40 years of musical career.’

And after 11 years without international tours, Muguruza is back on the road with a world tour that will cover his entire 40-year musical career. The Barcelona concert served as a celebration of his journey, from the early days with Kortatu and Negu Gorriak to his most recent solo work. In Muguruza’s words, Barcelona has always been a special place. Throughout his career, he has built a deep connection with the city, and his stay in Sant Andreu during the first part of 2017 even helped him learn Catalan, strengthening his bond with the region even further.
The artist emphasizes that this tour will be more than just a string of concerts, it will serve as a platform to use music for expression and social change.
The Barcelona concert was one of the largest of the tour, alongside performances at Madrid’s Wizink Center and the Anoeta Stadium in Donostia.
