The fifth album of Kasba Music’s 20th anniversary vinyl collection includes 8 of the best current Catalan punk bands and the title evokes the first album of the legendary Barcelona label Tralla Records.
Kasba Music presents the fifth vinyl from its collection of the 20 years of the label, “Catalunya explota”. In this case it is the only vinyl that does not look back and that has been recorded exclusively for the occasion and with a vision of the future, a compilation of current Catalan groups that practice a wide amalgamation of styles around punk and hardcore.
Despite being a current work that looks forward, it does not lose the relationship with the collection commemorating the 20th anniversary of the independent label and the title directly evokes the first reference of the Barcelona label Tralla Records that in 1991 published the compilation “Barcelona explodes” as a starting signal for his career. If on that occasion four bands from Barcelona were in charge of providing the soundtrack to the moment, now it has been eight of the most important Catalan bands that fill the grooves of this vinyl.
With a spectacular cover by Tòfol Cruz and completely linked to the musical content, using the typography that the English group Crass always used in all their vinyl, and also borrowing the lightning that the Bad Brains made fall on the Washington Capitol, we find a great representation of what is happening right now in the territory in relation to the hardcore-punk movement. Les Buch opens the album with their melodic pop-punk, followed by Ratpenat who with three albums behind them continue mixing punk, metal and rock, Againsters are perhaps the most classic if we take into account the Anglo-Saxon side while Batec are if we look at more towards punk made historically in the Spanish State. Brot Bord and Dalla represent various trends of the most Yankee hardcore while Nafra, the wildest, reflect the loudest trends made in Europe, and finally, the unclassifiable Ratpenades, which at the moment never cease to surprise us.
The entire album was mixed and mastered last year at EM Estudi in Terrassa by Xavi Escribano, responsible, in part, for the great productive vitality of the movement in our territory, and although the vast majority of songs were recorded at EM Estudi, The Wasabi and Toxik studies were also used.
