After spending half his life touring with different projects, such as Lád Cúig, Pennycocks, Duralex, or Red Roses for Me (a tribute to The Pogues) the musician and songwriter from Maresme, Carles Escrig, has decided to embark on his own solo journey.
Traditional music has been present in En Carlus’ life since childhood, and that is exactly how this space was born: to give voice to these artistic impulses and deeply rooted sounds. In a world that tends toward extreme digitalization, fostering alienation and the dehumanization of music, En Carlus defends the “song” in its purest essence: the expression of an inner universe through just a few verses and four chords.
During the Christmas holidays of 2024–2025, accompanied by renowned musicians, they recorded the songs for “La Cova”, all together and in isolation, at a farmhouse in Montnegre.
Within “La Cova”, listeners will find a wide range of sounds that, far from feeling scattered, come together as singer-songwriter material rooted in tradition. In a way, his style transports us to the 1970s, the golden age of the cantautores, while also drawing from folk, rock, and the revival of traditional music from different cultures. From track to track, “La Cova” takes us on a journey: from folk-rock and protest song to rock with psychedelic nuances, even touching on soul and boogaloo rhythms, and culminating in the artist’s boldest proposal: a contemporary habanera that embraces the genre’s tradition while adding a fresh, modern twist.
The album presentation concert for “La Cova” will take place on December 6th at Sala Upload in Barcelona, surrounded by friends and the special guests who collaborated on the record.
