- On Saturday the 29th, “Camí a l’infern” will be presented at Sala Wolf in Barcelona
- This is the fourth album by Ratpenat, one of the leading exponents of Catalan punk
- Before summer, they will present it in the Basque Country, Madrid, and several Catalan towns.
After a year-long break, Ratpenat returned with a first single and music video for “La dansa macabra”, featuring Podri, the singer of Rat-Zinger (singing in Catalan for the first time). In this song, they offer their personal take on the relationship between life and death. Their second single, “Això no és una cançó d’amor”, showcases their characteristic satire and irreverence, criticizing the most basic concepts of social conventions linked to romantic or platonic love. A song that they claim is not about love, but rather an anthem for the many ways it can be expressed.
But “Camí a l’infern” has much more to offer. “La nit és nostra” kicks off the album with a fresh introduction—an open declaration of intent, an anthem to partying and nightlife. “Hores extres” is a classic hardcore punk track: short, furious, and straight to the point. No hi ha lloc features David Positiu (Ràbia Positiva) and addresses the metamorphosis, overcrowding, and gentrification affecting Barcelona. “Mai més” is an antifascist song that includes a spoken excerpt of a poem by Martin Niemöller, read by Joni D. The title track, “Camí a l’infern”, sees singer Mikki Putu delve into his most personal experiences. “Tourist go home” is a hard rock song against misguided tourism and the issues it brings to the country. “Ens podrirem a Rodalies” is the most metal-infused track on the album, a furious critique of Renfe and the management of the commuter train network. Staying true to their essence, there’s also room for humor and satire with “No soc skin”, soc calvo.
This fourth album is arguably the most complete work the band has released to date. A diverse yet balanced record, touching on the many branches that make up their musical universe—a punk rock album with hints of hardcore and metal. Camí a l’infern (along with the rest of Ratpenat’s discography) was recorded at EM Estudi by Xavi Escribano. Several tracks feature backing vocals by Marcos López, the band’s original drummer and singer of Keloidrop. This is also the first album released with the band’s new lineup, as former drummer Marcos López has been replaced by Sergi Moreno, former drummer of Motorzombis, among others.
